When Webb School of Knoxville built their new Clayton Science Center, we at Pro Photo decided to get a photo for them to post on their wall. The original image was dull and lacked any punch…but while I was in school, the newest version of Photoshop had just come out which introduced layer masks…immediately I saw the values of what it could do and played around with some projects on my own that would mimic what has now become HDR, a tool that many Commercial Architectural photographers use today. Years later and after a little practice, this project was completed using those techniques that I learned back then and without the automatic compositing that HDR plug-ins do automatically today.
